Erik Candiani has been named director of brand strategy & management for KCBS and KCAL, the CBS Los Angeles duopoly, according to a memo to the staff by Joel Vilmenay, the stations’ GM.
The memo says Candiani will be responsible for helping to build and manage a clear brand strategy for the Los Angeles properties. He will work closely with the team to develop and deploy strategic external and internal marketing campaigns across all platforms, including linear, digital, and streaming.
Candiani, writing from the road as he travels cross-country to LA, says he’s “pretty excited about this new role and cannot wait to get going.”
He says Joel Vilmenay “has been fantastic and has a great reputation. I’m truly flattered he felt I was the right person to fill this unique and challenging creative job.”
This assignment marks a return to CBS for Candiani, having started his career at the CBS stations in Sacramento, Calif., KOVR and KMAX.
Most recently, Candiani was the director of marketing and creative services for WJZY, the Fox affiliate in Charlotte, N.C., where he led the station’s branding to Queen City News.
Over nearly 20 years, Candiani has served in various marketing roles at numerous stations including KTLA, KDVR in Denver, KARE 11 in Minneapolis, and as VP of marketing and creative services for KTVU in San Francisco. His work has won 12 Emmy Awards, 11 Promax Gold Awards, and three Associated Press Awards.
Candiani’s official first day is Oct. 3 and he says he’s inheriting a great team.
“It’s comforting to know I have the talent already in place to produce my signature brand of creative in Los Angeles again. It will be nice to return ‘home.’”
